Bruce Clay and Brent Rangen at the Bruce Clay, Inc Booth - SES San Francisco 2010

Back in 2001, I remember reading bruceclay.com for the latest SEO tips and strategies. Someone could have told me back then that I would be on one of his podcasts and I would have probably called you were insane.

This just goes to show you that you need to capitalize on opportunities and be active in the community. Practice what you preach and good things will come to you. The whole experience was unbelievable and the tips taken away from the past week have been something we will use for quite some time.

Without further adieu, here is the SEM Synergy interview and let me know what you think!

We discussed the SES San Francisco experience and also talked a bit about performing SEO services for small businesses.

Grand Prize Winner — Bruce Clay’s Small Biz Discovery Contest

The article I composed, “SEO for Small Business: Get an SEO Primer” won Grand Prize on BruceClay.com this past week! It has been a busy fourth of July around here. This was a great surprise to kick-off the holiday weekend though. Along with the recognition the grand prize winner gets a free pass to SES San Francisco. The Agenda looks great. I am really looking forward to it.

Winner of SES San Fran, Bruce Clay, and SEM Synergy

Grand Prize: A 3-day Platinum Passport to Search Engine Strategies San Francisco 2010, a seat in the SES San Francisco 1-day SEO training with Bruce Clay, and a copy of SEO All-In-One for Dummies. The grand-prize winner will be interviewed on the SEM Synergy podcast.

Of course the training from Bruce Clay will be excellent as well. I am really chomping at the bit to see the PPC lab and meet the fine people at Bruce Clay! Everyone who voted for me, you are awesome, and I hope to see all of you in San Francisco! Thanks #SEO, Forums.SEO.Com, my Twitter followers, and of course Bruce Clay and his staff for putting on such a great event.

So here he is again, the ruler of the web, and the face of Google, Matt Cutts, Google’s Spam czar answers a few questions on visibility. One thing to note: Google rewards sites that follow along with the SEO guide they published a few months ago, almost a new standards body in himself. SEO Tool #2

Today we are introducing SEO Tool #2 which is a scanner. What does it scan for you ask? Well my friend, it searches for industry related backlinking opportunities. This is not intended as a way to totally bypass searching manually for linking opportunities, no. It is meant to assist you in your link building campaign and hopefully will speed up the process.

  1. Enter your keyword(s)
  2. Enter captcha
  3. Wait for results

Now you have your results in hand and can exhaust every opportunity for ranking success and king of the SERPs.

As always, there is no concrete information on which accounts will be featured, or guidelines to qualify as one who will be featured. So far, this author can only find MattCutts and SEOmoz’s tweets featured. Google has confirmed using Facebook, MySpace, FriendFeed, Jaiku, Identi.ca and Twitter.

Once the roll out is complete we will have a better understanding of which accounts are featured and how it really works between the search engine and social media sites. It will be very interesting to see how the SEO community reacts to this. What are your takes on how this will change organic traffic and conversion rates?

IDX-MLS and Duplicate Content

Let’s say Dave has the domain IamArealtor.net and just like you Dave is desperatley trying to obtain Google ranking bliss. Dave doesn’t know everything. What he doesn’t knows is that without content your site can’t achieve good rankings. My thoughts were if Dave wants to have a listing feed pointed to his domain then he will have more content for the Search Engines to index. The content is from a feed and is probable posted somewhere else too. Now we are back to the question, Does Google Penalize for Duplicate Content? From what I have seen.. duplicate content is not penalized, and at worst is simply ignored.
